Sometimes people need help finding their voices - or help connecting to other people who share their concerns - or asserting their rights - or even knowing their rights to begin with.
Most public and private programs that provide supports or assistance for individuals who have special needs invite consumer input or even mandate consumer direction. Yet many individuals are not always aware of the power they can assert in these areas – or they may not know how to exercise that power – so they are too often invisible to legislators, public officials, executives and other policy makers.
People can also benefit in myriad ways by organizing private non-governmental groups for recreation, employment, and mutual support – but organizing takes time, effort and special skill.
